Job Summary:
The Lead Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the continuous efficiency, accuracy, and compliance of our 503A sterile compounding pharmacy operations. This position acts as a primary support to the Operations Manager- Processing Supervisor, providing informal leadership, guidance, and direct oversight to the Data Processing, Fulfillment, and Shipping technician teams. A key responsibility of this role is to effectively assume the operational leadership duties in the absence of the Operations Manager, ensuring seamless workflow, adherence to stringent quality standards and maintenance of a productive environment.
Reports To: Operations Manager - Data, Fulfillment & Shipping
Supervises: (Informal/Guidance) Data Processing Technicians, Fulfillment/Dispensing Technicians, Shipping Personnel
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
Manual dexterity for counting pills, handling small containers, and precise labeling.
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally (e.g., medication stock, supply boxes).
Visual acuity to read fine print on labels and identify medications.

Education/Certification/Licensure
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Active and unrestricted Florida Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration/Licensure is required.
- National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) from PTCB or NHA is required.
Must Have
- Minimum of 3-5 years of direct experience as a Pharmacy Technician, with significant experience in both data processing and dispensing/fulfillment roles.
- At least 1-2 years of experience in a 503A or 503B sterile compounding pharmacy environment, with a strong understanding of USP <795>, <797> and <800> principles.
- Demonstrated experience in a lead or senior technician capacity is highly preferred.

Operational Leadership & Support
- Manager Coverage: During the Operations Manager's absence (e.g., breaks, meetings, time off), assume direct responsibility for overseeing the daily workflow of Data Processing, Fulfillment, and Shipping teams. Address immediate operational challenges, prioritize tasks, and ensure continued productivity. Keep a daily metric sheet designed by director
- Workflow Coordination: Act as a central point of coordination between Data Processing, Fulfillment, and Shipping, proactively identifying and addressing potential bottlenecks to maintain a smooth flow of orders. Add hourly times to weekly pharmacy staffing guide
- Task Delegation: Assist the Operations Manager in assigning daily tasks and managing workload distribution among technicians to optimize efficiency and balance responsibilities.
- Problem Resolution: Address and resolve routine operational issues, technician questions, and minor discrepancies promptly. Escalate complex issues, regulatory concerns, or critical errors to the Supervising Pharmacist or Pharmacy Director as appropriate.
- Shift Handovers: Ensure comprehensive handovers between shifts, communicating critical information, outstanding tasks, and any relevant operational updates.
Hands-on Technician Duties
- Data Processing: Accurately enter and verify prescription orders, patient demographics, and compounding formulas into the pharmacy management system as needed. Add scans into software for verbal orders
- Fulfillment & Dispensing: Precisely count, measure, label, and package compounded and commercial medications, ensuring all necessary supplies are included.
- Shipping: Prepare packages for shipment, generate shipping labels, and coordinate with carriers as needed to meet delivery deadlines.
- Inventory Support: Assist with inventory management when items are needed
- Patient Pick up: Fill in when needed
- Phone Duties: Rotate through as needed

Training, Mentorship, QA, & Compliance
- Training & Onboarding Support: Assist the Operations Manager in training new Data Processing, Fulfillment, and Shipping technicians on SOPs, system procedures, and regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, USP 795 797 800 as applicable to their roles).
- Mentorship: Provide ongoing guidance, coaching, and support to fellow technicians, helping to develop their skills and reinforce best practices.
- Quality Checks: Perform regular quality checks on data entry, dispensing accuracy, labeling, and shipping documentation to ensure compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements. Report findings to the Operations Manager.
- SOP Adherence: Act as a role model and ensure strict adherence to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across all operational areas. Suggest improvements to SOPs as needed.mpliance & Communication:
- Regulatory Knowledge: Maintain a strong understanding of all applicable state and federal pharmacy laws, Board of Pharmacy regulations (especially Florida's), and USP <795>, <797> (Non Sterile and Sterile Compounding) and USP <800> (Hazardous Drugs) guidelines relevant to technician roles.
- Documentation: Ensure all required documentation (e.g., dispensing logs, shipping manifests) is accurately completed and maintained.
- Interdepartmental Liaison: Facilitate clear and effective communication between technicians, pharmacists, and the Operations Manager to ensure smooth workflow and resolution of issues.
